Game Face Football Cookies made approachable with clear cues, pantry staples, and flexible swaps.

Ingredients

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup royal icing
  • Decorative sprinkles or chocolate chips for the footballs

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract, and mix until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
  6. Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes to allow it to firm up.
  7. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about ¼ inch thick, then use a football-shaped cookie cutter to cut out cookies.
  8. Place the cut-outs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  9. Let the cookies cool completely before decorating them with royal icing.
  10. Use the royal icing to draw football laces and decorate with sprinkles as desired.
