Cranberry Sauce with a Citrus Twist

Orange Cranberry Sauce made approachable with clear cues, pantry staples, and flexible swaps.

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces fresh cranberries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup fresh orange juice
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Method

  1. Rinse the cranberries under cold water and remove any stems or bruised fruit.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine cranberries, sugar, orange juice, and orange zest.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
  4. Once boiling, reduce heat and simmer for about 10-15 minutes until the cranberries burst and the sauce thickens.
  5. Add ground cinnamon and salt, stirring to combine. Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary.
  6. Remove from heat and let the sauce cool to room temperature; it will thicken further as it cools.
  7. Transfer the cooled sauce to a serving dish or a container for storage.
