Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup shredded cheese cheddar or your choice
  • 1 tablespoon fresh herbs like rosemary or chives
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg for egg wash

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the shredded cheese and fresh herbs until evenly mixed.
  5. Pour in the milk slowly and mix until just combined.
  6. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently 2-3 times.
  7. Pat the dough into a circle about 1 inch thick and cut into wedges or use a round cutter.
  8. Place the scones on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  9. Brush the tops with an egg wash for a golden finish.
  10. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Remove them from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
