Deliciously Fun Pizza Stockings for the Holiday Season

Pizza Stockings made approachable with clear cues, pantry staples, and flexible swaps.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water 110°F
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup pizza sauce
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Assorted toppings pepperoni, olives, bell peppers, etc.

Method

  1. Activate the yeast by combining warm water, yeast, and sugar in a bowl. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Gradually add in the yeast mixture and olive oil, stirring until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).
  6. Roll out the dough to your desired thickness, about 1/4 inch thick, and cut out shapes resembling stockings.
  7. Transfer the cut dough shapes to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Spread a layer of pizza sauce on each stocking.
  8. Layer your chosen toppings generously on each stocking, then sprinkle with mozzarella cheese on top.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the cheese is bubbling.
  10. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
