Deliciously Soft Pretzel Bites for Home Cooks

PRETZEL BITES made approachable with clear cues, pantry staples, and flexible swaps.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 ½ cups warm water
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 large egg beaten
  • Coarse sea salt for topping

Method
 

  1. Prepare the yeast mixture by combining the warm water and yeast in a bowl.
  2. Mix the flour and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Combine the yeast mixture with the flour mixture to create a dough.
  4. Let the dough rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  5. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and prepare a baking soda bath.
  6. Roll the dough into ropes and cut them into bite-sized pieces.
  7. Boil the dough pieces in the baking soda bath for about 30 seconds, then place them onto a baking sheet.
  8. Brush with the beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse salt before baking.
  9. Bake the pretzel bites for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
