Deliciously Sweet Glazed Fresh Cherry Almond Scones

Glazed Fresh Cherry Almond Scones made approachable with clear cues, pantry staples, and flexible swaps.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter cubed
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup fresh cherries pitted and chopped
  • 1/2 tsp almond extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tbsp milk

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix the buttermilk, cherries, and almond extract.
  5. Add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  6. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead a couple of times.
  7. Shape the dough into a circle about 1-inch thick and cut into wedges.
  8. Place the scones on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 15-20 minutes.
  9. While the scones are baking, prepare the glaze by whisking powdered sugar and milk together until smooth.
  10. Once baked, allow the scones to cool slightly before drizzling with glaze.
