In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
In a separate bowl, mix the buttermilk, cherries, and almond extract.
Add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead a couple of times.
Shape the dough into a circle about 1-inch thick and cut into wedges.
Place the scones on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 15-20 minutes.
While the scones are baking, prepare the glaze by whisking powdered sugar and milk together until smooth.
