Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup hot water

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease an 8-inch square baking dish or cake pan.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract.
  5. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips gently.
  7. Transfer the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
  8. Pour hot water over the top of the batter without mixing.
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes until the edges are firm and the center is a bit jiggly.
  10. Let the cake cool for 15 minutes before serving.
