Savoring the Tradition of Classic Delmonico Potatoes

Classic Delmonico Potatoes made approachable with clear cues, pantry staples, and flexible swaps.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 pounds of russet potatoes
  • 1 cup of heavy cream
  • 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 stick of unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon of paprika

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Peel and slice the russet potatoes into thin rounds.
  3. Butter a 9x13 inch baking dish, then layer half of the potato slices in the bottom.
  4. In a saucepan, combine heavy cream, cheddar cheese, half of the Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and paprika; heat over low until melted and smooth.
  5. Pour half the cheese mixture over the first layer of potatoes.
  6. Layer the remaining potato slices on top, then pour the rest of the cheese mixture over.
  7. Sprinkle the remaining Parmesan cheese on top.
  8. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  9. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
  10. Let the dish rest for 10 minutes before serving.
